Visby
We woke up this morning to glorious sunshine, but by mid-morning a thick fog had set in. Because we're not due in Visby until 1pm we have a relaxed morning. Coffee in the cabin, then up to Windows for breakfast. At 9:30 we went to a destination lecture about Visby and Stockholm. Then back to the cabin for a short work update. I must say that internet is better on this cruise than the last time I was on Pursuit! At 11:30 another lecture about the golden age of Broadway musicals. The lecturer was not only very interesting but a great singer as well. There was a barbeque on deck for lunch with a great spread. At first we weren't sure we had actually arrived in Visby because we couldn't see anything through the fog!
Karen and I had booked a cycling excursion, and we headed off at 1:30pm. Luckily by the time we had driven into town and got our bikes the fog started to lift. Visby is the largest town on the island of Gotland, and is very pretty. A walled city with many churches, gardens and lovely houses. Our bikes were heavy 3 speeds, but luckily we didn't have many hills. Our guide gave us lots of information about the history of the island, and we rode along small roads and trails through very pretty country-side. There was a great view from the top of a cliff looking back along the coast to the town. We stopped for coffee and a sweet bun at a former royal residence that is now an inn. And then back into Visby and back to the ship, just in time for a quick shower and pre-dinner drink.
Again the 6 of us met for dinner in the main dining room. Another fun dinner enhanced by a beautiful sunset. Ian and I caught the tenor singer in the lounge, a very good show.
